# MC Stompin – North East Rave & Makina Legend **MC Stompin** is one of the best-known and longest-running MCs in the North East England rave scene. His history stretches back beyond the New Monkey era to clubs including **The Venue, The Colosseum and After Dark**, before he became one of the voices most strongly associated with North East Makina and the New Monkey sound. ## The Early Days Stompin was involved in the North East rave scene from a young age. Looking back on those early days, he has recalled getting on the microphone at **After Dark while still a teenager** and becoming a resident at **The Venue**. Those clubs belong to an earlier chapter of North East rave history, before Makina and the New Monkey became such a huge part of youth culture across the region. ## The New Monkey For many ravers, however, **MC Stompin and The New Monkey** are inseparable. Surviving recordings document him performing throughout the early 2000s. A **21 September 2002** New Monkey recording is credited to MC Stompin, with MC TNT also appearing. On **28 September 2002**, another surviving recording features: **MC Tazo MC Stompin MC TNT** And a **2 November 2002** recording features **Tazo and Stompin** over a Nitro set. ## Stompin & Tazo One of the classic North East Makina combinations is: **MC Stompin B2B MC Tazo** Recordings of the pair continue to circulate more than 20 years later. Their performances became part of the distinctive North East interpretation of Makina – fast Spanish-influenced rave music combined with local MC lyrics and delivery. ## Stompin & Ace Stompin also performed alongside **MC Ace**. One surviving New Monkey recording from **11 October 2003** features DJs Matrix & E.C. with: **MC Ace & MC Stompin** These old recordings are particularly valuable today because they preserve the actual sound and atmosphere of the scene rather than simply people's memories of it. ## Halloween 2004 Another surviving recording is: **DJ Nitro & MC Stompin – Halloween 2004** It's now available digitally as part of the growing archive of New Monkey material being preserved on modern streaming platforms. What originally circulated through tapes, CDs and copied recordings can now be discovered by another generation. ## A North East Icon Stompin's influence reaches beyond the traditional Makina scene. When Newcastle DJ and producer **Patrick Topping** played one of the UK's early socially distanced dance events in 2020, Stompin appeared as a surprise guest. Topping told Mixmag that he'd listened to Makina and MCs such as Stompin from around the age of 11, describing Stompin as one of the most legendary MCs in the North East. That shows just how far the influence of the old North East rave scene travelled. ## Still Performing in 2026 MC Stompin isn't simply somebody we hear on old New Monkey tapes. **He's still performing in 2026.** Current appearances include events at **Powerhouse Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough Empire**. He's also appearing at **The New Monkey vs Rave To The Grave – Hell's Party** at Elysium Sunderland on **10 October 2026**, alongside MC Tazo. More than two decades after those surviving 2002 New Monkey recordings, Stompin is therefore still getting behind the microphone. ## Part of North East Rave History When documenting the development of MC culture in North East England, **MC Stompin has to be part of the story**. His career connects different generations of the scene: **The Venue The Colosseum After Dark The New Monkey North East Makina Modern reunion and rave events** For older ravers, his voice brings back memories of clubs, tapes and nights out. For younger listeners discovering old New Monkey recordings online, Stompin provides a direct connection to the original North East Makina generation. The venues may have changed. The technology has certainly changed. But more than 20 years later, **MC Stompin is still part of the North East rave scene.** --- ## Do You Remember MC Stompin?
