# MC Tazo – North East Makina / New Monkey Legend
**MC Tazo** is one of the best-known voices to come out of the **North East Makina rave scene**, with a long association with Sunderland's legendary **New Monkey**.
For a generation of North East ravers, the combination of fast Makina, DJs and MCs was a massive part of the weekend — and Tazo became one of the names most closely associated with that sound.
## The New Monkey
MC Tazo can be heard across numerous surviving New Monkey recordings from the early 2000s.
A recording from **17 August 2002** features:
**MC Tazo
MC Ace
MC TNT**
Other surviving 2002 recordings place Tazo alongside **MC Stompin, MC Stretch and MC TNT**, showing how firmly established he was within the New Monkey MC line-up during that period.
## Tazo & Stompin
One of the combinations many North East ravers will recognise is:
**MC Tazo B2B MC Stompin**
Recordings of the pair have survived and are now available again digitally, giving younger Makina fans the chance to hear material that originally circulated through rave tapes, CDs and downloads.
Tazo also recorded memorable B2Bs with **MC Ace**, another familiar voice from the New Monkey era.
## More Than 20 Years of Makina
Tazo didn't disappear when the New Monkey closed.
He continued MCing and remained connected with the North East rave and Makina scene.
That's important because Makina in the North East isn't simply about nostalgia.
New generations have discovered the music, while MCs and DJs from the original scene have continued performing alongside newer artists.
Tazo himself has spoken about how Makina went through ups and downs after the New Monkey era rather than simply dying with the club.
## Still Going in 2026
More than two decades after those early New Monkey recordings, **MC Tazo is still performing in 2026**.
He's appearing alongside **Andy Whitby at Bounce Sessions Sunderland on 26 September 2026**, on a line-up that also includes MC Stompin, MC Rockeye, MC Crazy-T and other North East artists.
He's also billed for **The New Monkey vs Rave To The Grave – Hell's Party** at Elysium Sunderland on 10 October 2026.
That's quite a journey from the original New Monkey recordings of 2002.
## Keeping the North East Sound Alive
MC Tazo represents the connection between two generations of North East rave culture.
There are people who remember hearing him on New Monkey tapes more than 20 years ago.
There are people who discovered those recordings through YouTube and streaming.
And there are people who can still go and see him perform live today.
The venues and technology have changed.
**The North East Makina MC culture is still here.**
