# DJ Chrissy G – New Monkey / North East Makina DJ When you start digging into the history of **North East Makina**, one DJ appears again and again across more than two decades of recordings, events and rave line-ups: # DJ Chrissy G From the classic **New Monkey era** through to modern Makina events, Chrissy G has remained part of the North East scene. His career connects the original Sunderland rave generation with today's revival of Makina. ## From Newcastle to the New Monkey Chrissy G's current artist biography describes him as **hailing from Newcastle** and says he has been playing gigs since **2001**. More importantly for the WGR archive, it states that he began his career as a: **resident DJ at the New Monkey in Sunderland.** That puts Chrissy G right inside one of the most important periods in North East Makina history. ## The Classic New Monkey Era During the early 2000s, the New Monkey became famous for its combination of fast dance music and rapid North East MCing. Chrissy G was one of the DJs supplying that soundtrack. Surviving recordings preserve him alongside many of the MCs we're documenting in the WGR archive. One particularly good example is: **DJ Chrissy G & MC Ace The New Monkey Tazo's 21st Birthday 26 July 2003** The recording survives online today, preserving another piece of the original Monkey era. ## Chrissy G, Tazo & TNT Another important surviving New Monkey recording dates from: **16 November 2002** The preserved release identifies: **Chrissy G & Jacko** with: **MC Tazo MC TNT** That's a strong snapshot of the early-2000s Monkey sound. Two of the best remembered MCs from that period performing over music supplied by Chrissy G and Jacko. ## TNT & Magic – 2004 Another officially preserved release comes from: **10 January 2004** featuring: **DJ Chrissy G** with: **MC TNT MC Magic** The recording has since been officially released digitally through the New Monkey catalogue. Recordings like these are important because they allow a new generation to hear the DJs and MCs rather than simply read their names on old flyers. ## Chrissy G & MC Stompin Another combination remembered from the era is: **DJ Chrissy G & MC Stompin** Old uploads of the pair continue circulating online. Stompin's rapid-fire North East MC style over Chrissy G's fast Makina selections is exactly the sort of combination people associate with the classic Monkey sound. ## Impulse & Stretch Chrissy G also appears alongside: **MC Impulse MC Stretch** A surviving recording titled: **Renegade 4 – DJ Chrissy G – Impulse & Stretch B2B** has accumulated tens of thousands of plays online. Both Impulse and Stretch became established names within the wider North East Makina scene. The official New Monkey archive also preserves a: **DJ Chrissy G – MCs Impulse & Stretch** set. ## More Than the Original Monkey Era One thing that makes Chrissy G particularly interesting for the WGR archive is his longevity. When the original clubs disappeared, Chrissy G didn't simply become a name from an old tape. He continued DJing. Over the years his profile has included appearances connected with major events including: **Clubland Lost Minds Andy Whitby & Friends We Are 90s** and numerous North East Makina events. ## Middlesbrough & Teesside Chrissy G has also remained connected with the modern Teesside rave scene. At **Initialize at Middlesbrough Empire** in June 2025, the line-up included: **DJ Carter B2B DJ Chrissy G** with: **MC Letrix B2B MC Rocking** The event also brought together DJs Culture, Browny, Major and Cromo alongside a huge collection of North East MCs. ## Initialize Valentine's Ball 2026 Chrissy G returned to the Middlesbrough Empire for **Initialize – The Valentine's Ball on 13 February 2026**. This time the event specifically presented a: # THE NEW MONKEY set featuring: **DJ Chrissy G B2B DJ Culture** with: **MC Tazo MC Tempo MC Turbo D** That's a brilliant cross-section of names from the classic North East Makina scene performing together again more than two decades after the early Monkey recordings. ## Boiler Room – Newcastle 2026 Then came one of the biggest signs yet of Makina's renewed visibility. On **28 March 2026**, Boiler Room presented a dedicated Makina showcase at **NX Newcastle**. The line-up included: **Nanna Makina DJ Skudero Monica X Chrissy G x Ollie B DJ Culture** For Chrissy G, that's quite a journey. From resident DJ at the New Monkey in the early 2000s... to appearing at a Boiler Room Makina showcase in Newcastle in 2026. ## Back to the New Monkey Sound Just days after Boiler Room, Chrissy G appeared at **The New Monkey Easter Special** in Sunderland on **5 April 2026**. The vinyl-only DJ line-up included: **Matrix Chrissy G Culture Rikki King Cliffy Matty O Quest Woody Telf Burn-E Anth Hopper** with MCs including: **Stompin Tazo Turbo D TNT Stretch Impulse Hyper Trance Rocking Tempo Crazy T** That's almost a roll call of the names we've been rebuilding through the WGR archive. ## More Than Twenty Years Chrissy G's career gives us an excellent way of seeing how North East Makina has survived. In the early days, people heard him through: **New Monkey tapes CD packs Copied recordings** Then came: **MP3s YouTube SoundCloud** And today the same culture appears through: **Streaming services Modern rave events New Monkey reunions Boiler Room** The technology changed. The venues changed. But the music survived. ## Why DJ Chrissy G Matters Chrissy G isn't simply a DJ whose name appears on an old Monkey tape. His career links different generations of North East Makina. He was a **New Monkey resident**. Recordings survive from the early 2000s. He performed with MCs including **Ace, Tazo, TNT, Stompin, Impulse and Stretch**. And more than twenty years later he was still performing at major North East Makina events. That's an important piece of rave history. --- ## Do You Remember DJ Chrissy G? Did you see **Chrissy G at the New Monkey**? Did you own any of his old Monkey tapes or CDs?
