# MC Trance – North East Makina / New Monkey MC **MC Trance** is a long-running North East Makina MC whose name is strongly connected with the **New Monkey and Hangar 13** era. His surviving recordings place him alongside many of the MCs we're documenting in the WGR archive, including **TNT, Ace, Impulse and Lyric**. ## The New Monkey MC Trance became part of the distinctive MC culture surrounding Sunderland's legendary **New Monkey**. The club operated between 1999 and 2006 and became one of the most important homes of Makina in North East England. At the Monkey, the MC wasn't simply somebody introducing the DJ. MCing became a major part of the music itself – fast rhymes delivered over Makina, Hardcore, Hard Trance and the other high-energy records played at the club. MC Trance was part of that culture. ## TNT & Trance One surviving New Monkey recording from **5 April 2003** features: **DJ Browny MC TNT MC Trance** with TNT and Trance performing B2B. This is useful archive evidence because it puts Trance directly alongside **MC TNT**, another established Gateshead/New Monkey MC from the period. ## Hangar 13 MC Trance also appears in the surviving history of **Hangar 13**. A January 2007 recording features: **DJ Quest DJ Rob St** with: **MC Trance MC Ace MC Impulse MC Lyric** That's a serious North East MC line-up. It also demonstrates that the network of MCs built around New Monkey and North East Makina continued performing together beyond the original club. Another surviving Hangar recording pairs: **DJ Shock B2B Illusion** with: **MC Energize & MC Trance** ## Trance, Ace, Impulse & Lyric The January 2007 Hangar 13 recording is particularly interesting for the WGR archive because it captures four MCs we're documenting individually: **Trance Ace Impulse Lyric** These weren't isolated performers. They were part of a wider North East MC culture where different combinations regularly performed B2B over the DJs. ## The New Monkey Reunion Years after the original New Monkey closed, MC Trance returned for the reunion events. An official New Monkey recording preserves: **DJ Isy & MC Trance – TNM Reunion – 29 August 2021** The recording was subsequently released by The New Monkey and remains available online. That's important because it demonstrates the continuing audience for these MCs long after the original club era. ## Still Performing in 2026 MC Trance remains part of the North East rave scene in **2026**. At **Hysteria Dance at Powerhouse Newcastle on 27 March 2026**, the line-up included: **DJ Carter B2B DJ Direct** with a three-way MC set featuring: **MC Stompin MC Trance MC Impulse** The same event also featured **Stretch and Techno-T** together. So more than two decades after the surviving New Monkey recordings, Trance is still sharing stages with MCs from the original North East scene. ## Different Generations of North East Rave MC Trance is another example of why the North East Makina story didn't simply end when the New Monkey closed. We can follow his name through: **The New Monkey Hangar 13 New Monkey reunion events Modern North East Makina nights** And throughout those years we repeatedly find him alongside other major North East MCs. The clubs may change and new generations of ravers may arrive, but many of the original voices are still involved. **MC Trance is one of those voices.** --- ## Do You Remember MC Trance? Did you see **MC Trance at the New Monkey or Hangar 13**? Do you remember **TNT & Trance**? What about the Hangar set featuring **Trance, Ace, Impulse & Lyric**?
