# MC Impulse – Newcastle / North East Makina MC **MC Impulse – Rossi Impulse – is a long-running Newcastle MC, DJ, songwriter and lyricist who has been part of the North East Makina and Hardcore scene since the early 2000s.** His own profile says he began **DJing in clubs in 2001** and started **MCing at events in 2003**. That makes Impulse another artist whose career crosses the original New Monkey generation and the modern North East Makina scene. ## Growing Up With North East Rave Impulse lists some major North East rave names among his early influences. His DJ influences included: **Selector C Charlie Matrix Scott NRG Reaper Attack** While his MC influences included: **Techno-T Stompin G-Force Attack JD Walker Hype Jet** It's a great example of one North East rave generation influencing the next. ## The New Monkey Impulse became part of the later **New Monkey** period. One surviving recording from **23 September 2006** features: **DJ Ricki King DJ Matrix** with: **MC Impulse MC Trance MC Ace MC Turbo D MC Rocking** That's an impressive collection of North East MCs on one recording. ## New Monkey Unity Special Another important surviving recording comes from the: **New Monkey Unity Special – 29 November 2006** The MC line-up includes: **Tazo Rocking Turbo D Impulse Lyric Ronez** More than an hour of that performance survives online today. For the WGR archive, recordings like this are brilliant because we can actually hear how these different MCs worked together inside the club. ## Hangar 13 Impulse was also involved with **Hangar 13**. A surviving recording from **28 August 2005** features DJs Quest, Carter and Direct alongside: **MC Tazo MC Ace MC Scotty Jay MC Impulse MC Stretch** Another Hangar 13 recording from **2006** features: **MC Stretch MC Energize MC Scotty Jay MC Impulse** This gives Impulse another important connection to North East rave history beyond the New Monkey. ## Stretch & Impulse One combination that appears repeatedly is: **MC Stretch & MC Impulse** A 2013 ProGression recording with DJ Illusion describes both Stretch and Impulse as **North East legends**. There's also a surviving **2016 North East Makina mix** featuring DJ Movin with Stretch and Impulse. ## Raid Rhyme One of the most interesting pieces of Impulse history is connected directly to the closure of the New Monkey. When Vice documented the North East Makina scene, it specifically mentioned **MC Impulse's “Raid Rhyme”**, describing it as a rhyme commemorating the police raid and closure of the New Monkey. That makes Impulse part of not only the music of the club but also the way its history was remembered through MC lyrics. ## DJ, MC and Songwriter Impulse isn't solely an MC. His own profile describes him as a: **DJ MC Songwriter Lyricist** He also provides lyrics and vocals for producers and DJs across Makina, Hardcore and related styles. His DJing covers several genres including: **Makina Hardcore Hard Trance Trance Bounce 90s Eurodance House** ## Still Making New Material The story hasn't stopped with old New Monkey recordings. In **March 2026**, Project 88 released: **Not The New Monkey 3 – MC Impulse & Konnect** That's important for the archive because it demonstrates that Impulse remains connected with new material rather than existing solely through recordings from the 2000s. ## More Than 20 Years in the Scene Impulse's career now stretches across more than two decades of North East rave culture. From starting MCing in **2003**, through **Hangar 13 and New Monkey**, to later events, studio sessions and modern Makina projects, he's remained connected with the music. He's also performed outside the North East at events in **Scotland, Yorkshire and North West England**. That makes MC Impulse another important link between the original North East Makina generation and the scene that continues today. --- ## Do You Remember MC Impulse?
