# MC Turbo D – North East Makina / New Monkey MC **MC Turbo D** is a long-running North East Makina MC and one of the voices associated with Sunderland's legendary **New Monkey**. His career stretches back more than two decades, with surviving recordings documenting him alongside some of the biggest MC names from the North East scene. ## The New Monkey One particularly important surviving recording is dated: **20 April 2002** and features: **MC Stompin MC Tazo MC TNT MC Turbo D MC KC** It's a brilliant snapshot of the New Monkey MC scene at the beginning of the 2000s. ## Turbo D Takeover – 2002 Another excellent piece of archive material comes from **27 July 2002**. The surviving New Monkey release contains an entire Turbo D section: **Turbo D Takeover Turbo D & Chrissy G Pt. 1 Turbo D & Chrissy G Pt. 2 Turbo D & Chrissy G Pt. 3 Turbo D & Chrissy G Pt. 4 Turbo D Last Tune** That gives us much more than Turbo D simply appearing briefly on somebody else's recording. He had his own substantial section of the night preserved on the tape. ## Stompin & Turbo D Another surviving recording from **7 September 2002** features **MC Stompin and MC Turbo D** together. Turbo D also appears with Stompin on a surviving **Chrissy G New Monkey recording from 9 November 2002**. These recordings show him working alongside one of the most established voices in North East rave. ## MC Ace & Turbo D Turbo D also performed alongside **MC Ace**. The preserved **New Monkey Halloween Special 2003** with DJs Juan Cruz and Matrix contains tracks credited to: **MC Ace & MC Turbo D** Again, it provides solid evidence of Turbo D's place among the New Monkey MC roster. ## The Under-18s Turbo D wasn't limited to the main adult nights. A complete surviving New Monkey recording from **7 November 2003** is: **DJs Woody & Lee – MC Turbo D** from one of the club's **Under-18s nights**. Another Under-18s recording from **6 December 2003** features: **DJ Triple X MC Ronez MC Turbo D** Those Under-18 events became part of the way a younger North East generation discovered Makina and MC culture. ## Part of the North East Makina Sound Turbo D's current artist biography describes him as a **North East MC with 26 years in the scene**, mainly performing at Makina events. His surviving recordings support that long history. He's appeared alongside names including: **Stompin Tazo TNT KC Ace Ronez** and worked over sets from DJs including: **Chrissy G Matrix Woody Lee Triple X** ## Still Performing in 2026 Turbo D remains active in **2026**. At **Initialize – The Valentine's Ball at Middlesbrough Empire on 13 February 2026**, the New Monkey section featured: **DJ Chrissy G B2B DJ Culture** with: **MC Tazo MC Tempo MC Turbo D** He has also appeared at **Rave To The Grave Outdoors in Sunderland** and other North East events during 2026. Upcoming appearances listed for September and October 2026 include **Hysteria at Powerhouse Newcastle** and **Initialize Halloween Special at Middlesbrough Empire**. So Turbo D isn't simply a voice preserved on old New Monkey tapes. **He's still part of the North East rave scene more than 20 years later.** ## Keeping the Old Sound Alive Turbo D is another MC who connects the original New Monkey generation with today's North East Makina revival. We can trace him through surviving recordings from **2002 and 2003**, hear his performances again through today's streaming archives, and still find his name on North East rave line-ups in **2026**. That's exactly the kind of history we're trying to preserve with the WGR archive. --- ## Do You Remember MC Turbo D? Did you see **Turbo D at the New Monkey**? Do you remember the **Turbo D & Chrissy G** sets? What about **Stompin & Turbo D** or **Ace & Turbo D**? Did you attend one of those old **New Monkey Under-18s nights**?
