UltimateBuzz.net – Over 25 Years of North East Rave Culture Online
If you were involved in the North East rave scene during the 2000s, there is a good chance you came across UltimateBuzz.net.
Long before Facebook groups, TikTok and today's event pages became the normal way of following the scene, dedicated rave forums were where people found events, talked about DJs and MCs, shared mixes and kept in touch with other ravers.
UltimateBuzz.net was one of those important online meeting places.
Live & Direct Since 2001
UltimateBuzz.net dates its history back to 2001, with the site crediting Daz Effect as its original founder.
The site became closely associated with rave culture, particularly Makina, hardcore and the North East scene.
Evidence of just how early it became established can still be found on old internet forums. In June 2002, somebody asking about hardcore clubs in the North East on HappyHardcore.com was told to check UltimateBuzz.net because there were “loads of Makina” events happening in the region.
That gives a great snapshot of what UltimateBuzz represented at the time: somewhere people could go to find out what was happening in the local underground scene.
The Days of the Rave Forum
For younger ravers, it can be difficult to appreciate just how important forums were before social media took over.
A rave forum wasn't simply somewhere to leave comments.
It could be the place where you discovered the next event, found a DJ mix, talked about the previous weekend, identified an unknown tune or spent half the night having completely random conversations with other members.
UltimateBuzz developed a sizeable community around that culture.
Old references to the forum survive across the web, including links to individual UltimateBuzz discussions from the 2000s. As late as 2011, users on HappyHardcore.com were still recommending UltimateBuzz.net to people looking for information about Makina tracks.
Makina and the North East
One of the things that made UltimateBuzz particularly interesting was its connection with Makina culture in North East England.
Makina developed an unusually strong following in the region, becoming closely connected with the fast-paced DJ-and-MC style heard at North East rave venues and events.
UltimateBuzz gave that audience its own online home.
DJs, MCs, promoters and ravers could all exist within the same community rather than being separated across dozens of modern social-media pages.
For anyone researching the history of North East Makina today, old UltimateBuzz material can therefore be a fascinating piece of the puzzle.
Mixes and Music
Music was naturally a major part of the community.
UltimateBuzz didn't disappear completely when the classic forum era began to fade. The name continued to be associated with mixes and podcasts.
For example, an UltimateBuzz.net podcast featuring DJ Triple XL and DJ Gary MC survives on Mixcloud, tagged with both Makina and rave.
It is another reminder that these communities weren't simply discussion boards. They helped circulate the actual music that kept the scene moving.
Photos, Videos and Memories
UltimateBuzz.net today contains material documenting rave history as well as current community activity.
Its video section includes footage connected with names and venues familiar to North East ravers, including MC Tazo, Powerhouse Washington, Powerhouse Newcastle and The New Monkey.
There is also an event gallery containing photographs from different periods of the scene.
Material like this becomes increasingly valuable as the years pass. Clubs close, old computers disappear, flyers get thrown away and early websites vanish.
Every surviving photograph, recording, flyer and forum discussion can help preserve another little part of the story.
UltimateBuzz Is Still Online
Unlike many rave websites from the early internet era, UltimateBuzz.net is still online in 2026.
The current site continues to feature community discussions, downloads, videos, event information and archived rave material.
That means UltimateBuzz has now existed in one form or another for around 25 years — an impressive lifespan for an independent community website.
An Important Piece of North East Internet History
Sites such as UltimateBuzz are worth remembering for more than nostalgia.
Before today's social networks put everything into one enormous feed, underground scenes often built their own little corners of the internet.
UltimateBuzz.net was one of them.
It connected people through Makina, hardcore, DJs, MCs, events and the shared experience of the North East rave scene.
For those who were there, the old forum era will bring back plenty of memories.
For those discovering the history now, UltimateBuzz provides another window into a period when the North East rave community wasn't just happening inside clubs.
It was happening online as well.
